Research Focus

An expert on fetal and neonatal nutrition, Michael Georgieff specializes in the effects of iron deficiency on the anatomy, metabolism, and behavioral function of the developing brain. Georgieff performs long-term studies of newborn infants with nutrient deficiencies. The purpose of his research is to understand the systems by which nutrient deficiencies affect selective areas of the developing brain while sparing other areas. He hopes to link changes in brain anatomy and function with behavioral outcomes.
